As Australia continues to strengthen its domestic manufacturing sector, demand for locally produced office paper is growing. For many years, the Australian market has relied heavily on imported copy paper, creating opportunities for local paper mills to expand into office paper production.
One example is Boyer Mill in Tasmania. Established in 1941, Boyer is Australia's only manufacturer of newsprint and one of the country's leading producers of publication papers. With FSC and PEFC certified raw materials and existing paper-making capacity, the mill identified office paper as an important new growth opportunity.
Although Boyer could already produce jumbo paper rolls, manufacturing finished office paper required an additional converting process. Without an in-house Paper Sheeter Machine, paper rolls would need to be transported to external converters for sheeting, wrapping, and packaging. By installing its own sheeting line, the mill can improve production control, reduce logistics costs, and strengthen supply chain efficiency.
After evaluating paper converting solutions from around the world, Boyer selected a CHM Five-Pocket Paper Sheeter Machine. The system offers stable production, reliable cutting quality, flexible processing for multiple paper grades, and a fully integrated sheeting and packaging workflow, making it well suited for large-scale office paper manufacturing.
Commissioning began in January 2026, with full production expected by July 2026. Once operational, the new production line will enable Boyer to manufacture and package Australian-made office paper entirely on site, helping reduce reliance on imported products while supporting local customers with shorter lead times.
